A study commissioned by the Ohio Deparment of Development to assess the effectiveness and impact of the Ohio Third Frontier program was issued on Tuesday. The study, conducted by SRI International, finds that the Third Frontier program has had a substantial impact on economic development in Ohio.
From a Department of Development press release:
The study by SRI International found that State expenditures related to the Ohio Third Frontier of $681 million generated $6.6 billion of economic activity, 41,300 total jobs, and $2.4 billion in employee wages and benefits. According to the impact study’s figures, Ohio has garnered a nearly $10 return on every dollar of the State’s investment in the period from 2003 – 2008, with the expectation of increased impacts in the years to come.
“This report shows that the Third Frontier has made a major impact on job creation in Ohio,” Chancellor Fingerhut said. “Clearly we need to build on these efforts if we are to accelerate the economic rebirth of the State of Ohio.”
