Dep’t. of Homeland Security presents Science and Technology Information System Security Officer of the Year

Columbus, OH—Michael Smith, a member of the Battelle Cyber Security Practice, was selected to receive the 2009 Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Information System Security Officer (ISSO) of the Year award on Oct. 14.

Sean Lang, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Science and Technology Directorate at the DHS, presented the award. Cyber security is a top priority for the Obama Administration and Battelle, through the efforts of Michael Smith, is proud to be part of the solution.

“We are especially proud of Michael,” said Brian Schultz, Battelle’s Senior Director of the Cyber Security Practice. “He has played an instrumental role in the recent success of the S&T Office of the Chief Information Officer. In his function at Battelle, Michael has been an exemplary model ISSO for our personnel and has been willing to provide his support and service to those in need to ensure the S&T mission does not waver.”

Smith said he didn’t expect the award but was especially pleased to receive it. “I want to thank Jack Devins who is a critical member of my team for his assistance in achieving this award, which reflects highly upon Battelle,” he said. “This was a team effort.”
