Plastics in medical devices focus of April conference

AKRON, OHIO — Ohio in April will welcome a new European import, in the form of “Plastics in Medical Devices 2010,” a conference that will examine the design, development and production of emerging medical devices. The event will be held April 12-14 at LaCentre in the west Cleveland suburb of Westlake.

The organizers, Crain Communications Inc.’s Akron-based Plastics News Global Group, have staged this conference three times since 2006 in Brussels, Belgium. The conference aims to bring together all segments of the supply chain under one roof for two intensive days. Participants will include polymer and equipment suppliers, consultants, product designers, plastics processors, medical-device makers and pharmaceutical company end users.
The event begins April 12 with a pair of concurrent, afternoon workshops, followed by a 31-speaker conference program on April 13-14. Numerous Ohio companies are participating, including the Cleveland Clinic, Battelle Memorial Institute, Balance Product Development, Frantz Medical Development Ltd., Parker Hannifin Corp., North American Science Associates Inc., PMC LLC, U.S. Endoscopy and law firm Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP. So are global health-care giants AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Johnson & Johnson. Other processors on the program include Atek Plastics, GW Plastics Inc., Mack Molding Co. and Nypro Healthcare, along with a number of suppliers and designers.
