Do you have an "Old Yeller" project ?
I was sitting in a meeting today discussing how organizations are sometimes hesitant to shut down projects even when it's the right thing to do. Shut down a project? Are you crazy? Why should we shut down a project that we worked so hard to start? I just spent 3 months getting the ROI figured out and approved.
The reality is that assumptions and markets change, and projects need to be shut down. As important as the projects we take on are the ones we say no to. Even when those projects are in mid flight.
As my friend Andrew indicated sometimes the dog has rabies - do the humane thing (like Travis) man up, be brave ,shed a tear and shoot Old Yeller.
