New group alert - Introducing BDPA

Ben's note: As part of our service to the greater Columbus community we introduce people, groups, and products that you should know about.  Here's an intro to BDPA by Reggie, the president of BDPA.

My name is Reginald Hillery and I'm president of Columbus Chapter of BDPA. We are a service organization that advances the careers of IT professionals, entrepreneurs and students from the classroom to the boardroom.  We accomplish this through education, mentoring, services and business networking that enhances innovation, technical skills, business savvy and personal growth.

We hold monthly Information and Exchange meetings where we bring in top-notch IT talent to interact and share with our members and guest. The speaker presents background information, and then facilitates discussion of a critical question regarding the topic. Participants have the opportunity to gain knowledge, to enhance abilities in articulating technical content, and to benefit from challenging discourse on important topics in information technology.

In addition, we hold weekly computer training sessions with high school students where we provide them with free web technology training. The students are given the opportunity to compete against other chapter's high schools for college scholarships.

Our mission is simple " BDPA Columbus will be essential to Central Ohio by empowering minority stakeholders with innovative programs that advance information technology excellence amongst our members & serve to close the digital divide in our community."
