Ohio Supercomputer Center Offers Remote Interactive Visualization Using NVIDIA Quadro Plex 2200 S4 Supplied by PNY and JRTI

Ohio Supercomputer Center provides new remote visualization capabilities to Ohio's academic and industry researchers with the delivery of dedicated multi-GPU visualization solutions

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- PNY® Technologies and James River Technical, Inc, (JRTI) announced today that the Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) has taken delivery of multiple NVIDIA® Quadro® Plex 2200 S4 systems to be integrated into its "lights out" operation room at the State of Ohio Computing Center. These dedicated multi-GPU visual computing solutions will allow Ohio's academic and industry researchers, for the first time, to visualize and interact with extremely large models remotely from their classrooms or labs.

OSC needed to increase its interactive visualization capacity to meet the needs of its clients such as veterinary students probing the depths of animal anatomy or researchers investigating the histology of cancers. To meet this demand, OSC built powerful visualization nodes associated with its IBM Cluster 1350, which are used for remote and batch visualization as well as GP/GPU computing. OSC is particularly excited about the remote capabilities because it allows a much broader range of clients to take advantage of advanced visualization, in effect giving them the power of a supercomputer from their desktop. OSC relies on its new NVIDIA Quadro Plex 2200 S4 visual computing systems to power these GPU nodes because they deliver massive computational power : 16GB memory, CUDA parallel computing processor (960 parallel processing cores), and 64 bit floating point support.

"OSC chose the NVIDIA Quadro Plex solutions for their optimized support of CG, GLSL, CUDA and OpenCL," said Don Stredney, Director, OSC Interface lab. "This will allow OSC to further explore both interactive volume rendering of extremely large data sets, through CUDA programming, and additional uses in remote visualization. Now, numerous faculty, staff, and students will have access to the unique architectural environment to expand current coursework as well as research in the areas of extremely large scale image processing, molecular dynamics, data mining, scientific and information visualization."

JRTI, a company specializing in delivering innovative and cost effective solutions, collaborated with OSC on building the new visualization nodes as well as upgrading their existing visualization cluster. According to Leo Iantosca, CEO, James River Technical, Inc., "JRTI worked closely with the OSC to identify the optimal solution for their needs. The NVIDIA Quadro Plex units are uniquely qualified due to both the GPU compute and visualization capabilities that they deliver. We're excited to have collaborated with our partner PNY to provide this unique solution."

"Once again OSC leads the way in advanced visualization. By using the NVIDIA Quadro Plex systems to offer remote interactive advanced visualization, OSC is providing Ohio's academic and industry researchers with the high performance computational resources they need to break new ground in a variety of disciplines," said Jeff Medeiros, Director of Marketing, PNY Technologies, Inc.

PNY along with JRTI and additional partners will be exhibiting at the GPU Technology Conference held in San Jose, CA September 30 - October 2nd, 2009.
