Emerging Technology Forum: Advancing Materials into the 21st Century - New Connections through Third Frontier Technologies
It’s all about technology winners on September 30, 2009. PolymerOhio is hosting another of its well-attended Emerging Technology Forum (ETF) events. This time, the focus is on Ohio’s Third Frontier Investments in technology and manufacturing innovators.
Norm Chagnon Ph.D., Executive Director Third Frontier Commission, Technology and Innovation Division of the Ohio Department of Development, has said, “There are many measurable dimensions of the positive impact of the Ohio Third Frontier (OTF). Less tangible but critically important to our success are the multitude of unique and lasting collaborations that have resulted from OTF investments. Bringing people and organizations together in new ways has been a proven catalyst for innovation.”
To demonstrate exactly what Chagnon describes, five outstanding speakers from across the State will tell you about their ideas, their projects, and their technologies. Attendees will have several opportunities during the day to network with speakers and other attendees. Wayne Earley, President and CEO of PolymerOhio says, “The goal is for attendees to see opportunities in their organizations, to collaborate with other organizations, and to employ what they have learned to add value to their businesses."
"At this ETF, we would like to highlight the technologies that the groups are developing through the investments that ODOD is making in Advanced Materials research,” says Gary Hattery, PolymerOhio Vice President for Programs. Speakers will include Chuck Anderson of The Andersons speaking on his company’s Advanced Granules technology; Miko Cakmak of the University of Akron on polyimide film work; Prabhat Krishnaswamy of the Natural Fiber Composites Corp (NFCC) on advanced natural fibers; Brian Rice of University of Dayton on the four Research Commercialization Program/Wright Project (RCP/WP) grants that UDRI has won (focused on nano and composites); and Lance Criscuolo of Zyvex Performance Materials on the Zyvex/PolyOne advanced composites/carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
“We think the stories (each speaker) can tell about the new materials technologies that each is developing will be of great interest to our members and colleagues," says Hattery.
