Sunday evening TechLife meetup update - week of 3/01/09 - Jellies, Green, and Social Entrepreneurship

Please click here for the original posting chock full of links

Hope this message finds each of you well. First things first join me in welcoming our new members (John McKenna, Michael Wallace, Susan Reass and Brian Long to name a few) . We're up to 835 members (up from 808 last Sunday).

Welcome to Christopher Judd and Scott Merrill as assistant organizers. They'll be putting up meeting notices for the Central Ohio Java, Linux and Columbus iPhone Developers User Groups. The Central Ohio Chapter of Project Management Institute will also soon be putting their meetings and events on the site.

As with any new fast growing organization we sometime run into some road bumps. In this case our organizers are learning to use the meetup admin utilities. In some cases we've sent out some emails that probably shouldn't have. Whoops sorry. In any case here a link to best practices for managing your meetup emails - Best Practices.

This week brings us a week full of Jellies . Pray tell - what is a Jelly? Jelly is casual coworking. People work from a shared location for the day.

How did it start?
Jelly started in NYC in February of 2006 when roommates Amit and Luke realized that they loved working from home, but they missed the creative brainstorming, sharing, and camaraderie of a traditional office. (Office politics, not so much.)
So they started inviting friends to come work from their home one day a week. They soon found that working in close proximity to new and interesting people every couple weeks resulted in new ideas and interesting conversations.
Emboldened by their early success, they made it a more regular thing. Jelly was born.

Thanks to the Tina/Dave at Sandbox and Neal/Bonny at Qwirk for hosting the Jellies. Our apologies for those who signed up for the March 6 Jelly at Sandbox - we changed the Jelly to March 13 and forgot to send out a notice to those who had previously registered. Sandbox will be operating at Sandbox annex on 11 Price Ave. Check them out.

Social Entrepreneurship
Two weeks ago the GroundWork group had a information meeting for a Young Professional Advisory Group. There was a lot of great energy and (what seemed to be) an appetite for Social entrepreneurship. Look for a followup meeting in the next few weeks with specific opportunities to get involved.

This Tuesday evening network with Luke Barbara, Sidney Hargo and other social entrereneurs at the Columbus SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS Networking Event.
