NBC4 Needs Your Help Assisting Central Ohioans

Originally posted on Central Ohio Network Blog

Ryan Squire of our local NBC affiliate at channel 4 sent a series of messages on Twitter today talking about the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. The numbers of people who are served by the Mid-Ohio Food Bank are staggering. Some of the information Ryan Squire shared on Twitter:
  • The Mid-Ohio Food Bank has had a 14% increase in demand from local pantries right here in Columbus.
  • 1 in 8 people in Central Ohio need help from a local food pantry in order to be able to eat.
  • If there are 1.3 Million people in Franklin County, 162,000 people need help to eat. That is enough people to fill Ohio Stadium, Crew Stadium, Nationwide and Value Center Arena!
  • One third of the people served by the Mid-Ohio Food Bank have to choose between food and shelter and half are forced to choose between eating and utility bills.
As Ryan then stated simply, these are our neighbors. The odds that you know someone accessing benefits in Central Ohio are pretty good. So what can you do? NBC has activated 4’s Army to do a food drive for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. On Saturday, November 15th from 8am to 2pm at the NBC 4 Studios, 3165 Olentangy River Road. You can drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation. Too busy? You can go to the NBC4 web site to make a donation on line.

Please share this story with your social network. Thousands of Central Ohioans need your help. Maybe even someone you know.

Peace out,
Ben
